Jagger |
Jagger came into my life when everything that could go wrong, was going wrong. My previous marriage was ending and I was transferred to another job in my company. My hobby, the thing that was supposed to keep me sane and happy, was making me anything but. I could see basket weaving and ceramics in the very near future, unless something changed. Funny, how fate intervenes just when you need it to. My friend, Debbie, met up with Sandy Hawkins at an obedience trial, and made arrangements for me to see her 5-week old puppies. As soon as I walked into Sandy’s house, this fat little boy came right up to me and started tugging my shoelaces, that this was my boy. I wanted attitude, temperament, structure, and he had it all. The thing I liked the most was the way this dog, even at 5 weeks old, acted like he was the hottest thing on 4 paws. He swaggered and strutted, and the name, Jagger, suited him perfectly. Jagger loved to train and play from the day I met him. Just like that, my hobby was fun again. He was always enthusiastic, always willing, and always ready to go. When I had my keys in my hand, while the other dogs would mill around hoping they were going with me, Jagger would push right to the door, just assuming he was going. Jagger has been very successful in the activities we participate in. He has 3 obedience High In Trials from the Novice classes, and if I’d ever get my act in gear, we’d finish training for Open and Utility. He has shown in Conformation in both UKC and AKC, earning his UKC Breed Championship very easily. AKC is proving to be more challenging. He is pointed, thanks to Cathy Caruso’s wonderful presentation of him at the Northern NJ Kennel Club Show, and has several reserves in big classes. Hopefully, he’ll have more success at the New England shows in July. Agility is both of our favorite sport, where we teasingly say Jagger’s motto is "Blue or Bust", as he’s either 1st place or no place. He is very rarely out of the ribbons when he qualifies. His flashy looks, and enthusiastic barking and growling as he maneuvers the courses make him a crowd favorite. We are only 5 Double-Qs away from getting our MACH, and hope to finish the title in the fall. Jagger will be 6 years old in September. How that happened is beyond me, but I guess it’s true that time flies when you’re having fun. I am thankful every day for having this special dog in my life!!
