February 13, 2010:   METRO Annual Awards Dinner / Meeting Once again our members and their shelties enjoyed the annual celebration of fun and accomplishments. Thanks to Linda Savino, we were able to celebrate the many accomplishments of 2009. We enjoyed a brief meeting followed by a delicious Pizza Party. Thanks to the sable twins, Halo and Presto for sharing their 10th birthday with all of us. After our food feast, our shelties enjoyed untethered, free time with each other. It was a thrill to see all the sheltie 'kids' running and playing together without so much as a single 'smile'. Many of our members had a wonderful year waiting at the start line with their team mates and crossed the 'finish' line with success. Success can be measured in Q's and titles, but perhaps more important is the quality time spent making the journey which may ultimately be acknowledged in titles.

February 7, 2010:   Meto Goes Herdingc On February 7th, Metro sponsored a herding day with Gene Sheninger. A choice of group lessons, match run through or instinct test was offered. Even though w inter herding can be a chilling experience, our herding day generated a lot of interest and 9 handlers with 12 dogs filled the spots and braved the thrill of the chills. 6 shelties, 2 Tervs, 1 Collie, 1 Shepherd/Huskie mix, and one very adorable Corgi participated in the day. Two Shelties and one Turv passed the instinct test. Bonnie was the recorder for the instinct test. A fire, a great pot of chilli and Some'mores for dessert were served and certainly added to the pleasure of the day. People came and stayed most of the day - despite the cold air - luckily it was sunny. The best part of the day was that with each run, Gene gave commentary to explain why things went as they did - so both the dog handler and the audience were able to learn from each run. Everyone seemed to l eave happy and wanting to come back to our next event! Thanks go out to Bonnie and Helen for their generous contribution of time and talent to make this such a successful and pleasurable event.

July 26, 2009:   METRO Annual Picnic Can you believe? !!! Sunday, July 26 the Karma changed and our annual picnic finally reaped the benefits of a glorious day of sunshine.... ot even a singl e drop of rain! We gathered for a day of fun and celebration of good friends and great team mates. As always the picnic table was bountiful and delicious. As a special treat, Peggy Gibbons of Seeing Eye, Morristown, NJ shared the history of Seeing Eye and answered a mutitude of questions on training of both members of the team....biped and quadraped. Thanks to all who made the day so special and to Mother Nature for the Sunshine.

March 15, 2008:   METRO GOES HERDING On Saturday, March 15 a herd of Shelties (and one smooth Collie!) invaded Wayside Farm in Boonton for the Metro Group herding lesson. We were smart enough to pick a sunny day with perfect herding weather and everyone had a wonderful time. Three "newbies" distinguished themselves as competent sheepdogs, and we all learned from instructor Gene Sheninger as he took time out between the runs to explain herding concepts to us. Thanks to all who attended, and please stay tuned for more lesson dates in the near future!

April 8-9, 2006: Metro joined with Tri-State Dog Obedience Club and Golden Rule School for Dogs in offering the first Spring Cluster RallyO Trial. The week-end was a huge success, albeit a challenge dealing with the weather... ice, snow, rain, wind. Finally clearing skies and sun came to the event, although it was a little bit on the cool side. Many Qs and Titles were earned over the week-end. We are looking forward to the Second Annual Spring Cluster in April of 2007 and hopefully some REAL Spring weather.
